This reclaimed 19th century horse barn is found on the University of Wisconsin campus, and is to be used as short-term apartment housing for university guests.  In addition, it will provide conference spaces and meeting rooms for the guests to utilize during their stay.  Functionally, the building needs to be completely accessible, housing five ADA apartment units.

The design goal for the building was to bring life back into the space while maintaining elements of the old building. To accomplish this, the barn was opened up and exposed, allowing for large expanses of natural light to enter in.  A grand staircase is found on the first floor lobby with an opening that reaches all the way to the third floor rafters.  This gap allows the south facing light to penetrate in through the second floor lobby, and to serve as a focal point.
