Robert Schaffer is an Architectural Designer at Barlis Wedlick, an award-winning residential architecture firm based in New York City. Prior to joining Barlis Wedlick, Robert contributed to a variety of projects at Utile, a Boston-based design firm renowned for its think-tank approach to architecture. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture from the University of Wisconsin, where he also earned a certificate in Sustainability.

Robert’s professional experience spans a wide range of projects, from large-scale national and international commercial competitions to custom single family homes, and hands-on internships with leading design firms. He has worked for Utile in Boston, the Polyhedral Structures Lab in Philadelphia, Rockwell Group in Manhattan, Gensler in Dallas, and ERDMAN in Madison, Wisconsin.

Throughout his academic and professional career, Robert has earned numerous prestigious awards, including the Alpha Ro Chi Medal, the Samuel K. Schneidman Fellowship, the Warren Powers Laird Award, and a nomination for the KPF Paul Katz Fellowship from the University of Pennsylvania. He also received the Theresa A. Purnitun Top Portfolio Award, the Abby Marlatt Scholarship, and the Wisconsin Architects Foundation Out-of-State Scholarship from the University of Wisconsin. Notably, Robert’s team earned second place in the Department of Energy’s “Race to Zero” National Design Competition.

His work has been featured in several respected publications, including Pressing Matters from the University of Pennsylvania, Archinect, the Wisconsin Energy Institute, the UWM Report, the Department of Energy, the Ruth Davis Design Gallery, and the NAHR.
